SELF-EXAM

Let's learn how to touch our bodies?! We have made a step-by-step guide for you to learn how to do a breast self-exam.

It’s best to do it once a month, 5 to 7 days after menstruation (or on a set day for those who do not menstruate)!

STEP BY STEP

IN THE MIRROR

Look at both breasts with your arms down, then put your hands on your waist and push, then put your hands behind your head. See if there is anything unusual about them.

Check for flattening, bulging, wrinkling, redness, roughness, or hardness.

Note the size, position, and shape of the nipple, press it lightly, and see if any secretions come out.

IN THE SHOWER

With soapy skin, raise your right arm and gently press on the breast with the fingers of your left hand, spiraling from the armpit to the nipple.

Note the presence of lumps or hardening.

Do the same with the left breast.

LYING DOWN

Place one arm behind your head and with the other hand gently feel the breast in a spiral, from the armpit to the nipple.

Note any thickening or small lumps in the skin.

Do the same on the other breast.

Please keep in mind: you must be the protagonist of your health, demand exams if you notice anything different, even if your doctor believes it is not a case of cancer.

Breast self-exam is not a substitute for a medical examination.

Get a mammography.

When breast cancer has visible symptoms, it is more advanced.
